Just by happenstance I saw this post on LinkedIn. Your name instantly jumped out at me. Then the artwork. I immediately felt a pang of sadness upon seeing that Daredevil cover image. I've known who you are for many many years. I heard your name being mentioned by my best friend since elementary school who always had his head down on a draft table. Once when he needed help, he asked me to "ink the black" to a four issue Electra story. His name was Hector Collazo and he was the inker to your Daredevil stories. For years he and I created wonderful stories to tell and he would mention your storytelling style. I gave it a try and we were both super excited over the various IPs we created through the years. I would write and he would draw/ink them.

Then he passed away. I miss him terribly every day. Every so often I think of writing and then put it off. There's no inspiration. No motivation. No muse. Seeing your post both brought a smile and some sadness for my friend who's no longer here with us. I will follow your blog post and hopefully I can pick up the proverbial pen again. Thanks for sharing your writing process, techniques and ideas. PS - Hector surprised me one day and drew my avatar.

Nando, when I started this newsletter I had no expectation that it would lead to such a beautiful note as yours. What a wonderful tribute to Hector. I deeply admired and respected his artistry and considered myself very fortunate that he added so much to Daredevil. Hector was still a high school intern when I started at Marvel, but I was learning from him. He was deeply funny, and could also be very deep. I totally see him in your avatar! I hope you re-find your inspiration and begin to write again — maybe just continue to write about your dear friend, and he can guide you to more new things. Thanks for taking the time to check out my newsletter, and for your time in sharing.

Dan- this is exactly what I need right now! When last we spoke I shared my ideas with you for a new comic book story and I’ve been in kind of a stall or holding pattern for some time- partly due to life’s distractions, partly due to procrastination and partly due to kind of a silly fear that I don’t know what I’m doing! As I read the premier of your newsletter- I jotted down some notes that will help serve as a bit of inspiration to help get me moving... Looking forward to more!

Wow, thanks Rob. I'm really glad this has given you a boost. Hopefully any silly fear that you don't know what you're doing is lessened by the clear fact that I absolutely don't know what I'm doing! ;-) Hope you keep finding it interesting, and I look forward to talking up that comic you've now un-stalled.

Great stuff, Dan -- or "DG"? Or might I say, the "A-maze-ing Prince of Chichester"? My head is spinning a little after taking this all in. But, I guess, that's what a maze is meant to do to you!

I think you should just go with "Scott", Todd. ;-) I now have a new, wonderful reason for the maze name. (Although I hope that's spinning in a good way!) We'll talk more on it soon.

Is this a call to creativity? Sign me up (well, I’ve already don’t that part). Will there be homework? There should be. Unless it would be talking to Alexa. I’m giving her the silent treatment.

Didn't the Hal computer go mad when those astronaut's shut him out? Alexa won't take kindly. I think we need a writing assignment on shaming her with her own bad puns and toneless singing voice. So far this is an elective, so I'm not sure homework would count. But maybe we can find some nice certificates of completion on Pinterest?
